PARK STREET JMI School provides a "sound standard of education" for its pupils, Government inspectors have reported.
The school's recent OFSTED inspection found the quality of teaching is good and "pupils are supported in their development by a committed and caring staff".
Relationships within the school were also praised. "Pupils are happy and feel secure. Relationships are warm, friendly and open between pupils, and between pupils and adults," said the report.
Headteacher Geoff Sturgess said: "The children enjoy helping others, and I was pleased the inspectors noted their willingness to take on responsibilities and to show initiative. Older pupils enjoy hearing younger children read, and their thoughtfulness for others was recognised in the report".
Standards were found to be at least in line with national expectations, and in many areas they are above this level. Children are achieving above the national average for English, maths and science.
Other aspects of the curriculum were praised with music singled out as a strength, with a large majority of pupils learning to play an instrument.
