Radlett 3rd XI 104

Hertingfordbury 189-7

There comes a time in a contest when one has to stand up and be counted, and unfortunately, the Spartacus Syndrome was noticeably lacking from Radlett's batting.

Radlett won the toss and optimistically opted to bowl. The bowling was steady and mostly economical, and at 60 for 3 after 30 overs, they were doing a fine job.

But Hertingfordbury timed their charge well and plundered the final 10 overs, reaching a total of 189 runs, a target which Radlett felt was well within their reach.

However, after Ingram unluckily played on to give Hertingfordbury their first and unexpected wicket, the gremlins of negative thought crept into the Radlett batting consciousness and previously bland bowling appeared to have hidden devils.

Only Gitay, who is normally free of any such self-doubt, and more briefly, Bhavesh Kotecha and Andy Saunders, flickered into life. On the strength of this disappointing performance, it is clear that the Radlett team do not deserve promotion.
