A BASEMENT battle in Division One saw Chorleywood notch an impressive victory over Radlett seconds - largely thanks to one man.
New Zealander Lance Dry picked up a career-best eight wickets and went on to top score with the bat as he spearheaded Chorleywood's path to their second win in successive games.
Only Horlock could offer any resistance, knocking 34 runs before being trapped in front of the stumps as Radlett were skittled out for 83.
Dougie Newton took the remaining two wickets with his best spell of the season, forcing a series of errors from the shell-shocked Radlett batsmen and Dry returned figures of 8-32 of 16 overs.
Radlett's bowlers faced a tough task with little to protect - the Wood lost just three wickets on their way to victory as Dry rounded off a great day with a quick 26 and Chris Tweedie hit 20 in eight balls at the end.
In a rain affected match, Chorleywood seconds fell two runs short of victory against North Mymms seconds, despite the heroics of veteran all-rounder Mike Rose.
Rose bowled his slow off spin through out the North Mymms innings, taking four wickets for 54 runs off 20 overs, leaving them with a modest total of 136 for eight.
Rose then led the batting charge, smashing five sixes in a quick fire 40, but, unfortunately, he did not receive enough support from the team and the Wood ended two runs short at 135 for eight.
Following a brave and mostly effective bowling performance, and another good fielding display, Radlett thirds failed to finish off Hertingfordbury in Division Six.
Radlett won the toss, and optimistically opted to bowl. The bowling was steady and mostly economical and, at 60 for three after 30 overs, the situation was promising for Radlett.
But Hertingfordbury timed their charge well, and plundered the final ten overs, although Radlett felt that 190 was an eminently 'gettable' target for a side with many good batters.
However, after Ingram unluckily played on to give Hertingfordbury their first, and unexpected wicket, Radlett's batting became more negative.
Only Gitay, who is normally free of any such self doubt and more briefly Bhavesh Kotecha and Andy Saunders, flickered into life.
