RICKMANSWORTH'S Elizabeth Clarke sealed an impressive week with a hat-trick of wins.

On Monday, she played Brenda Farr, of Bushey, in the Champion of Champions and she won a very good game, 21-18.

The next day, in the County Singles, she played Beryl D'Arcy, from Roeback, in the fourth round, winning this one 21-15.

Then, on Saturday, she went to Herts Club for the fifth round of the County Singles and completed her hat-trick of wins by beating Netta Pickin 21-16 to reach the sixth round.

Betty Sorrel lost her Secretaries Cup match to Wendy Andrews, of the Park Club, 21-8.

At Garston on July 3 in the London Southern Counties third round, J Riley had a very good result over W Lawrence from the park, winning by 21-16.

In the Vets League, Garston Red were beaten on both rinks by Bushey Red.

Garston Red, however, had a better result over north Watford by 36-24 overall, thanks to a good win on Riley's rink.

A Watford and District pairs game between E Wigg and an Oxhey pair was a nail biter to the last end where Garston were two shots down and needing three to win. Tommy T trailed the jack for three shots to win by one.

In the County League game at Garston, the home side took their revenge on Mill End by a big margin of 41-27.

Garston president L Chambers is having quite a season so far, and this week was no different.

Playing M Sooby in the afternoon, he won this two wood singles by 14-9.

In the evening, Loll joined up with R McKinnon in a club pairs and, after 21 ends, the game was level at 17-17. An extra end followed and again Loll came out on top over K Liffen and R Heasman by just the one shot.

In the District League on Wednesday, Garston had a fine win over old rivals Herts.

On rink three, Garston were 16-7 ahead at 15 ends, but a disastrous ten shots in three ends brought them back to reality and they lost by just one shot.

On rink four, a very tight game saw Garston ahead at 19 ends by six shots, but they managed to drop six shots in two ends to end up level.

Rink five was the saving grace for Garston, winning by nine shots - just enough to win the game by eight shots. Ron Spicer had a good game at skip on rink five, for his first game in the league at skip.

Garston rinks: M Boddy, R Heasman, E Brice, P Oxtoby lost 19-20; B Russell, L Arkill, E Wigg, D Pearson drew 15-15; D Harris, T Templeman, M Sooby, R Spicer won 23-14.

In the Ray Barber fours, Garston's team of Ingram, Wiggs, Starkey and Riley were beaten by an Abbots Langley four by 13-24, but the up side is that they won a Watford District fours match at Watford Park by 20-12 against a formidable team of D Lawrence, A Hall, A Humphrey and C Dutton.

In the club championship, Tom Spicer gave J Cross a hard time and only lost by four shots.

Lyn Arkill met L Chambers in the same competition and ended a good run of wins for Loll. After a hard fought game, Lyn won 21-17.

In the Friday night league game, Garston played Kitcheners. On the home rink it was a very tight game which Garston's four lost by two shots. The away rink, however, carried the fight and won by 12 shots.

Garston rinks: Home - Martin Boddy, Ron Spicer, Ted Wigg, Dave Pearson lost two shots; away - Basil Wiggs, Ron Heasman, Tom Templeman, John Riley won 12 shots.

John Riley had another down on Friday when he was beaten by P Ryan in the club Handicap Singles by 20-21.

Inter-force matches are always keenly competitive and a 69-69 draw was the reward for some hard graft by the Met Police Bushey in their encounter with Bedfordshire Police.

Ken Johnson and John Southern both lost by two shots and captain Peter McNulty by three. It was left to in-form president Don Taylor to close the gap, doing so with a 16-9 victory.

Rink scores (Met first): McNulty 21, Welham 24; Johnson 16, Milbourne 18; Southern 16, Brown 18.

Oxhey BC gave the Police a fright in their second-round encounter in the Ray Cup.

Ken Johnson finished with a one-shot deficit, with John Southern finishing shortly afterwards with a good ten-shot winning margin.

On the last rink to finish, Graham Searle had brushed aside previous difficulties with weight and played a large part in getting the rink to 15-16 at 19 ends.

With opposition skip Peter MacDuff needing to score well to keep the game alive, he failed by the narrowest of margins with a superbly weighted wood, pushing the jack back to a police bowl and conceding the match at 57-48.

Pride took a severe dent at Met Police in their game against Hampshire Police.

A comprehensive thrashing was administered by their country colleagues in appalling rain, with the Met managing a win on only one rink and that by the narrow margin of three shots.

Bright spots on a poor day were the continued revival of out-of-form Graham Searle, and David Elliot consolidating his good start to the season, each contributing to yet another defeat this year at the hands of the Met for veteran Hampshire skip Ken Marsh.

Hertfordshire played Norfolk in the Eastern Counties League at Hingham Priory BC on Saturday, resulting in a 121-103 shot win for the Herts side.
