I QUITE agree with Mr Bond's comments about the dilapidated state of the town.

My late husband and I, with our two children, moved here in 1953. It was then clean and quiet, everyone took pride in the town.

Now it has become a rubbish dump and is in a run-down state.

I now live in warden-assisted flats. The bus stop nearby had three windows smashed about four years ago. I have tried several times to get it repaired but, as stated in the paper, the only answer is the usual 'money's tight at this time' syndrome.

Also, over a year ago a window was pushed out of the bus shelter in the town centre. I have reported this a few times but the council says it is the responsibility of the Arriva bus company, but they say it is up to the council to repair. We just can't win.

It's allright for those responsible, they never have to wait for buses in all weathers.

The cycle track from Pynest Road to Staple Tye is fast becoming a dump for everyone's unwanted articles, including bags of rubbish and general litter. The footpath is still thick with sludge as a result of leaves from the trees which fell in the autumn.

Cars are a nightmare, parked carelessly on the pavement when mums take their children to school.

We have to run the gauntlet of them to walk to Abercrombie Way to catch a bus.

I haven't got the heart to vote in the local elections, as no one keeps their promises. The only time we see a councillor is at election time, when they want our votes.

It's time councillors had a good look at the town instead of riding about in their cars and sitting behind desks.
