Harry Potter author JK Rowling conjured up a magical appearance at Brent Cross for hundreds of young fans yesterday.
Ms Rowling signed copies of her new novel, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, for 400 fans, 80 of whom had won tickets through the Times Group.
The series ,, featuring the adventures of a young magician ,, has sold more than 30million copies worldwide.
The millionaire writer even brought a couple of witches to the exclusive signing session at WHSmith ,, but they turned out to be her minders.
Lior Smith, ten, from Lower Maidstone Road, New Southgate, queued up from 10.30am to be first in line.
She said: 'I was very excited to meet her but I thought she looked different. I imagined her in a black or red sparkly dress.'
Ben Liebowitz, seven, from Grove Avenue, Finchley, queuing with brother Jonty, four, said: 'Her books are amazing.'
Mum Gillian added: 'We all love Harry Potter. My sons will read them to their children one day.'
WHSmith manager Paul Brint said: 'It's the biggest signing we have ever done.'
