Boreham Wood v Wycombe Wanderers

Pre-season friendly

Saturday, July 22, kick-off 3pm

Meadow Park

When Wood generously allowed highly-rated winger Matt Brady to join Wycombe last December, without a fee the package involved a full first team visit by the Chairboys.

What consolation that provides the Meadow Park coffers is questionable, but Saturday's match offers another stern test for Wood's ambitious plans to bounce back to the Ryman League's top floor at the first attempt.

Wycombe boss Lawrie Sanchez amply demonstrated the grit gained in ten seasons at Wimbledon, where his precious goals won both the FA Cup and promotion to what is now the Premiership, by saving Wanderers from what looked like inevitable relegation two years ago, and last term saw them finish in a comfortable mid-table placing in division two. Twenty-two-year-old Brady will relish a chance to show Wood fans the undoubted talents that were glimpsed rarely during his 13 months at the club, and he will be supported in the tricky wingplay department by the gloriously named Jermaine McSporran, who faced Wood in his Oxford City days.

Former Billericay striker Steve Jones is another who has seen Ryman action at Meadow Park in the past, but he has since been the subject of nearly £2million worth of transfers, wearing the colours of West Ham, Bournemouth, Charlton and Bristol City.

Forward Sean Devine is well-known locally for his time with Barnet, and a tough-tackling midfield includes former Wimbledon man Stewart Casteldine and Wycombe's Football League appearance record holder Dave Carroll.
