Shenley Village 184
Braughing 137
Herts Cricket League Division Nine
The Villagers went into this game guns blazing last Saturday after their last two matches had fallen foul of the British summer.
Yet Shenley's gung-ho start came a cropper when they lost two wickets early on. Luckily, Tony Munting (51) and Steve Scott were on hand to weather the storm putting on 87 for the third wicket.
Then Scott (61) assisted by Worsop (25) took Shenley to 171 off 45 overs. This partnership was aiming for an early declaration but the Villagers' tail collapsed at 184 all out in 51 overs.
With 49 overs to bowl out Braughing, Shenley got off to a dream start with Steve Scott and Chris McDonald taking two wickets each. As a result Braughing found themselves at 34-4 off 14 overs and decided to play for a draw.
As wickets became a rare commodity on the flat pitch the Villagers dug deep and managed to pick off Braughing's batsmen ,, leaving the visitors on 124-8 off 43 overs.
Now with just six overs left the tension was building and Scott's removal of Newman for 26 increased the sense of anticipation.
As the game entered the final two overs the tension was at fever pitch as Shenley required one more wicket. This materialised when McDonald caught Smith lbw.
The second team crashed to a seven-wicket defeat against Monken Hadley .
