Barnet fans are looking forward to a rare treat, with the exciting prospect of Arsenal sending a strong squad to Underhill for Saturday's friendly.

Several big names are likely to be included, though Patrick Vieira, Marc Overmars and Dennis Bergkamp were given extra time to recover from their Euro 2000 exertions.

Lauren, a £7million signing from Mallorca, Alex Manninger, Lee Dixon, Gilles Grimandi, Oleg Luzhny, Paolo Vernazza and Jermaine Pennant were in action when Arsenal drew 1-1 in a friendly at Ryman League Division One Boreham Wood last Friday, Lauren scoring the equaliser.

First division Fulham are expected to send a powerful side to Underhill for a friendly on Wednesday night (7.45pm).

Simon Parker, who scored 21 goals for Ryman League Premier Division Heybridge Swifts last season, is on trial with Barnet.

Parker was quickly off the mark with a first-half goal in the 2-1 friendly win at Horsham on Sunday.

Lee Pluck put the Bees 2-0 up at half-time, before Horsham replied.

Striker Michael Mahoney-Johnson, a Barnet target when with QPR two seasons ago, was substitute and played in the second period.

Happiest man during Barnet's first-pre-season friendly at Folkestone on Saturday was central defender Mick Basham. His involvement in the goalless game ended suddenly when he was summoned to the touchline and given the good news that he had just become the father of a baby girl.

A young Barnet side crashed 6-1 away to Ryman League Premier Division Chesham United on Tuesday. The heroics of keeper Danny Naisbitt, who made several tremendous saves, prevented a much heavier defeat for the Bees, whose goal came from substitute Darren Currie in the second half.

Currie and Ben Strevens and former Arsenal player Jimmy Carter presented the prizes during Barnet Youth's presentation day at Old Elizabethans' Mays Lane ground.

During the successful day, Barnet Youth chairman Jim Gardner presented a cheque for £300 for the Aaron Lewington Appeal to Mr Usam Siddique, of McDonalds, Barnet.
