Mill Hill Village 87 Harrow Town 91-4
Middlesex Champ Division One
There was only one entry in the scorebook for Mill Hill Village to boast about last weekend ,, the signature of legendary Australian legspinner Shane Warne.
As the Village players sat outside the Harpenden clubhouse contemplating their second woeful batting display in as many days, they were bowled over yet again when the king of spin strolled towards them.
'G'day, Warnie,'' said an Australian member of the Village team. 'How are ya boys, allright?' replied Warnie as he put out a cigarette and plucked another from behind his ear before approaching the bar.
The Hampshire ace was in Harpenden to catch up with family and some old cricketing friends.
But the Village were not going to let an opportunity slip and they asked Warne to sign their scorebook. He wrote: To the Village, All the best (chumps), Shane Warne.
It was a fitting tribute as the Village endured one of their worst weekends this year ,, thrashed by six wickets against Harrow Town in Saturday's league clash and by the same margin in a Sunday League encounter with Harpenden.
