Hundreds of pupils at a Radlett school dressed in historical costumes for a pageant to mark the past 1,000 years.
The 360 seven to 11-year-olds at Fair Field Junior School, in Watford Road, wore outfits ranging from Romans and Victorians, to First World War soldiers and The Beatles, for the school's Millennium pageant on Sunday.
They paraded in an arena, set up in the school field, where they took their audience, of parents and other visitors, back over the past 1,000 years with songs, like wartime marching favourites, and re-enactments, including George and the dragon.
The costumes were put together by teachers and school helpers, as well as the children themselves, using items of clothing from home.
There were also fete activities, like a tombola, raffle and face-painting at the event, hosted by school headteacher Doug Helsby.
The day lasted from 11.30am until 5pm, and raised funds for the school.
Parent-governor Julie Root said: 'We had lovely weather and it was a huge success. All the children were included.
'It was not just a fete with everybody milling around - there was this huge centrepiece, which all the children enjoyed.'
On Saturday the school's parents' and teachers' association hosted a summer ball in the school hall. The evening started with a champagne reception at 7pm, and a live band entertained the 100 or so guests before the midnight finish. The school plans to hold the ball, which raised funds for equipment, every year.
