STUDENTS from Townsend School in St Albans put their best foot forward on a sponsored walk to raise money for a Ugandan hostel.
The whole school took part in the ten kilometre walk through Childwickbury and along the River Ver recently, led by religious education teacher and head of careers Sue Price.
As part of their Millennium project, Mrs Price and a group of pupils have organised several fundraising events in the last few months such as a treasure hunt and sponsored aerobics session.
They are aiming to raise £3,000 for the hostel in Namirembe which accommodates 60 girls aged between 13 and 20 who are keen to study.
The hostel is in desperate need of new equipment, most urgently a lighting system so the girls can study after dark.
Currently the girls use candlelight but that was the cause of a recent fire in the building.
Mrs Price will be taking six students to visit the hostel over the summer holiday to see how their cash has been implemented.
