HARPENDEN Ladies moved another step closer to National Club League glory with a powerful play-off victory over The Hampshire Club.

Trevor Adamson's girls secured their place in the National Finals with another whitewash win in the last 16, as they won all the singles rubbers to wrap up a 4-0 triumph.

Harpenden will now travel down to the West Hampshire Club in Bournemouth in September, for the quarter-finals and hopefully the semi-finals and finals.

They will be up against the strongest club sides in the country, although with Sunday's success at Batchwood again underlining their strength-in-depth, they must be among the favourites to lift the league title.

Kate Warne-Holland, Heidi Farr, Anne Keothavong and Julia Smith were the latest fabulous foursome to sweep all before them as captain Adamson reshuffled his pack again.

Players must have appeared in three league games to be eligible for the post-season and while some teams had to enter the play-offs with only three players, Harpenden now have a squad of seven to choose from.

Adamson said: 'It is all about planning, which is why we have changed our side recently. We now have a strong, solid squad all the way through and seven girls eligible for the finals.

'Much depends on fitness and availability, but with our strongest side out, there's absolutely no reason why we shouldn't go on and win the thing.'

Harpenden only dropped four points in winning the Eastern Division and The Hampshire Club found out just how formidable a line-up they possess.

Number one seed Warne-Holland got her side off to the perfect start with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Catherine Gunn, before Farr proved far too strong for Hannah Piercey in a straightforward 6-1, 6-2 success.

Keothavong put her side into an unassailable 3-0 lead with a similarly comfortable 6-1, 6-3 victory over Gemma Vaughan, before the whitewash win and a place in the final line-up was secured by Julia Smith's 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Nicola McCormick.

Harpenden's Eastern Division rivals Newmarket also made it through their play-off, while Holcombe Brook (Lancashire), Eastways (Cambridgeshire), Loughborough University (Leicestershire), Globe (Middlesex), Esporta (Surrey) and Northumberland LTC complete the Bournemouth roll of honour.
