FINE weather and a big turnout are hoped for on Sunday when St Clare Hospice at Hastingwood holds its annual summer fete between 11am and 4pm.
A floral display competition is a new attraction this year with categories for all ages and abilities. Class A is for adults and is a themed display 2ft x 2ft x 18ins representing an era during the last 1,000 years.
Class B, also for adults, is an arrangement in a tea cup. Class C, for children aged between five and ten, is a miniature garden on a plate measuring no more than eight inches in diameter.
The entry fee for the adult classes is £2.50 (children's entries £1 each). Participants should report to the flower marquee on f?te day from 8am onwards. The displays will be judged from 10.30am and must remain in the marquee until 4pm. All the entries will be judged professionally, but not under NAFAS rules.
Proceeds from the day will go towards the £1m needed this year to keep the hospice services running.
Visitors will also be able to listen to the Belgian street organ, play games, tuck into cream teas or barbecue food and watch dog obedience demonstrations and the majorettes.
There is also a grand draw. Entry to the f?te is £1 (children aged under 14 free).
