Bill Hampsher, a stalwart of Woodside Park Residents' Association for more than 20 years, has died aged 86.
He was taken into Barnet Hospital suffering a gall bladder infection and died early on Sunday of blood poisoning.
As vice-chairman of the residents' association, Mr Hampsher, a retired chartered surveyor of Cissbury Ring South, Woodside Park, led opposition to the controversial closure of Partingdale Lane in Mill Hill.
'He was very active and easily the most energetic member of the association,' said fellow committee member Nick Gardner.
He was also a keen bowls player and member of Finchley Victoria Bowls Club.
Mr Hampsher, who moved to Barnet in 1960, leaves his wife of 55-years, Elsie, a son and daughter as well as seven grandchildren.
A funeral takes place at Hendon Cemetery in Holders Hill Road, Hendon, on August 4 at 2.30pm.
