WITH the football season only weeks away, Bishop's Stortford Swifts are gearing up their challenge for honours in the Essex Intermediate League.
The Swifts squad have just returned for pre-season training and are preparing for a testing set of friendlies.
Secretary Dave Griffiths said: 'This promises to be a very tough season.
'There are seven or eight teams who could win the division and we need to be one of them.'
This Saturday the Swifts are at home against Milton Keynes City. They kick off against the Minerva Spartan League premier division side at Silver Leys at 3pm.
On August 5 the Swifts play host to a strong Stansted team (3pm) before playing a series of away matches at Potton United (August 8, 7.45pm) and Haverhill Rovers (August 12, 3pm).
Despite this gruelling schedule, the Swifts are still looking for a team to provide friendly opposition on August 19.
They are willing to play an away match against any side of intermediate status or above.
They are also looking for players of an intermediate standard to join the team. Anyone interested should telephone 01279 831 376.
