RALLY ACE Claire Morran's latest race was ended when her engine blew up just 18 miles in.

Morran was in action in Swansea on Saturday, where sweltering conditions had an adverse effect on her Ford Ka.

She said: 'These things happen in rallying.

'We were going really well on the sponsors day but when it came to the actual race, something went wrong.'

She was ten seconds ahead of the field at the first checkpoint when the engine overheated then blew up to end her day prematurely.

Morran added: 'It was quite frustrating because I knew we were going really well,.

'But the engine's going to be completely checked at Boreham Wood before the next race.'

Morran, who is sponsored by Holfeld Motorsport, is in 12th place overall in the Ford Ka championship and stays in second place in the women's event after her bad luck in South Wales.

She has a top quality support team as well as other help from Ford and Amoco.

Her quest for rallying glory continues next month in Scotland.
