Further to Joe Pollock's letter (Borehamwood Times, July 13): We too are new to the area.
We like the town and people, and are glad we moved here.
However, I share Mr Pollock's views on the station and his sentiments that we should voice our criticism.
The current situation gives a very poor impression of the town. In addition to Mr Pollock's points I would note three others: Any proposed development which does not, as I understand the plans, provide a lift for the disabled, elderly and children in buggies, is unacceptable in the year 2000.
Especially so given the profits Railtrack and others make.
On a recent arrival at the station from work, I noted a strong smell of urine in the rat-run from platform to street.
I've no idea whether this connects with Mr Pollock's observation of a pair of discarded knickers, but it does re-inforce his argument that the standard of cleaning is lamentable.
There are no toilet facilities at the station. The nearest facility is adjacent to the pathway outside the station.
The only time I attempted to access this automated rubbish bin, it swallowed my money but denied me access.
As there is a room in the station which provides tea and coffee, I would have thought that the station has an obligation to provide decent toilet facilities on site.
I would be interested to learn of more informed opinion from other readers of your newspaper.
I hope that this letter does not read like a whinge from an incomer; we are very happy to have moved to Borehamwood. I feel, however, that Railtrack and/or Thameslink are doing the town and its people a great disservice.
