Students at schools throughout Borehamwood and Elstree who have gone that 'extra mile' to help others were honoured with Rotary Club awards last week.
A total of 24 pupils were presented with awards by the Elstree and Borehamwood Rotary Club for fulfiling the club's motto of 'Service Above Self'.
Four Holmshill School students, Ben Churchill, Christopher Green, Holly Palmer and Michelle West, received their awards from club president David Clout.
The ceremony, on Wednesday last week, followed a presentation on Roald Dahl's story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which features spoilt, self-centred children.
Mr Clout said: 'The recipients of Rotary Awards are exactly the opposite ,, they are 'give, give' children.
'These are children who are prepared to go the extra mile; they don't just do what is expected of them, but see things which need doing and do them.'
Rotary awards were also presented to: Leanne Baker and Ethel Okorji, of Hillside School; Aaron Palmer, Samantha Tyson and George Wolstencroft, of Monksmead School; Nikki Jones, Amy Payne and Martin Wymer, of Saffron Green School; Gemma Berwald and Paul Weston, of Shenley School; Yemisi Bankole, Danielle Fraser, Adam Levene and Christopher Readings, of St Nicholas School; Naz Ahmed, Rebecca Farrell, James Gladwell, Linzi Powell and Charlotte Watkins, of Woodlands School.
