Charity cash to help kids
BISHOP'S STORTFORD. WEDNESDAY AUGUST2. 2PM. BISHOP'S Stortford's Inner Wheel Club has given £1,300 to a 24-hour helpline for children who are in trouble or danger.
The club, for the wives of Rotarians, raised the money for ChildLine to help organisers recruit and train a volunteer counsellor.
Retiring president Maureen Smith said: 'As I work with children at a pre-school nursery I thought it was rather apt that I should organise events which would benefit children. We are very pleased that we were able to raise so much money.'
Fundraising activities included a Christmas bazaar and raffle.
ChildLine fundraising organiser Melanie Watts said: 'Childline receives 15,000 calls every day but we are currently only able to answer 3,500 of them simply because of a lack of funds.
'Every penny of this generous donation will go towards ChildLine's vital work and ensure that even more children receive the comfort, advice, and protection they desperately need.'
