Stortford 174-4
Letchworth 173-7
Stortford won by six wickets
(Saracens Herts Premier Division)
BISHOP'S STORTFORD yet again had Aussie star Darren Whittingham to thank after seeing off Letchworth at Cricketfield.
Whittingham provided the spark with bat and ball to inspire Stortford to a six-wicket win in the Saracens Herts League premier division.
Batting first Letchworth recovered from a disastrous start and managed to score a total of 173-7.
At one point the visitors were on the rack at 105-6 but Ray Kingshot managed to build a partnership with Rob Gilliam of 52 for the seventh wicket.
Tormenter in chief of the Letchworth batsmen was Whittingham, who was a constant menace, finishing with figures of 4-47. Charlie Bannister also took 2-35.
In reply Stort started slowly with openers Ben Debenham and Tom Ball putting on 15 for the first wicket.
Steve Burrow was then bowled for 16 but the innings only came to life when Whittingham came to the crease.
He again showed the way knocking a confident 42, ably supported by Adrian Wacey, who was unbeaten on 54 as Stortford made their way towards their total.
Stortford even finished with a flourish, hitting 19 off the last 18 balls of the game to secure victory in style.
