Boreham Wood 3 QPR XI 1
Pre-season Friendly
To the strains of Queen and Five's We Will Rock You, Wood took to the pitch on Saturday afternoon to continue their sparkling pre-season programme.
However, under the blistering sun it was their visitors who took command, giving Wood a headache as a lob-shot whizzed over keeper Imber and the crossbar.
Andre Delisser, on dynamic form as a playmaker during the entirety of this game, fought back for Wood shortly after.
He scooped up the ball from around the halfway line, weaved his way through the Rangers' ranks and unleashed a shot which failed to net.
Inspired by Delisser ,, who led countless sorties into QPR's half ,, Wood slowly climbed into the driving seat over the opening 20 minutes.
But Rangers punished the hosts for their audacity when Arnold Saranbanou latched onto a through-ball and poked it home past Wood keeper Imber, much to the disgust of the small but verbal Wood crowd.
Saranbanou wasn't QPR's only danger man to keep Wood on their toes. Tony Scully flew down the left flank just after his team mate scored ,, and launched a furious rising shot which Imber had to block with his body.
And Rangers blonde bombshell initiated yet another assault on Wood's goal moments later.
Breaking from the halfway line, Scully outpaced Wood's rearguard before unleashing a rocket. But keeper Imber sent the QPR man's furious shot spinning skyward.
As the half continued, Wood's Andre Delisser found himself locking horns with the aforementioned Scully in a battle of the midfield maestros. Both men were well-matched; Delisser is a great reader of the game with a magnificent striding pace, while Scully possesses a stunning turn of speed.
At the midway point of the opening 45 minutes the Delisser-Scully show took centre stage.
The latter blasted a ball past Woods defensive wall and into the hands of Imber.
The Wood keeper then banged the ball up into QPR's half. Delisser took possession and shook off a challenge from Scully before dashing towards Rangers' goal but a sea of yellow shirts blocked his progress.
Then Wood netted their first of three goals. Neil Jelby had been caught by QPR keeper Ball and up stepped John Lawford for the resultant penalty, which he deftly fired home to redress Wood's deficit.
Minutes before the break Wood took the lead and once more it was Lawford who supplied the goods, with a whipped-in strike.
A solid 2-1 lead against QPR's next generation in the muggy heat more than demonstrated the rich vein of potential in Wood's squad.
The second-half opened with both sides trying to play at the breakneck end-to-end pace of the first 45 minutes, but the sweltering heat was taking its toll.
QPR lost Tony Scully to the subs bench and he was replaced by Richard Graham, but he was confronted by Wood's confident rearguard, personified by Otis Hutchings and keeper Imber, and he failed to score. Wood substitute Lee Talbot put the icing on the cake, hitting the third seconds before the final whistle.
Wood starting line-up: Imber, Tilbury, Davis, Hutchings, Paris, Leach, Delisser, Savage, Lawford, Selby, Mills.
