Boreham Wood v
Rushden & Diamonds
Pre-Season Friendly,
Saturday August 5, Meadow Park, Kick Off 3pm.
Any reference to the Diamonds is usually prefaced by comments about their status as the Bank of England club of non-league football, but Wood fans will have the opportunity to see what lies behind their cheque book this weekend.
Friday evening's Nene Park friendly with Luton makes it unlikely that many of Rushden's first choice XI will be on show at Wood.
Dr Martens magnate Max Griggs, whose investment in the Diamonds runs into millions, recently stated: 'I believe that the youth policy is going to be important to our future.'
Nevertheless, he has splashed out an incredible £180,000 to bring striker Justin Jackson to Rushden from Morecambe to link up with former Notts County man Duane Darby.
Neither will feature this Saturday, but England non-league international Darren Collins, ex-West Brom keeper Stuart Naylor and French striker Jean-Michel Sigere may appear.
