Lack of driver experience and training were the main causes of the Paddington rail crash that killed 31 people, including a Muswell Hill commuter, an inquiry heard last week.

Computer expert Rasak Ladipo, 33, of Constance Court, was one of the victims of the horrific train accident at Ladbroke Grove last October. The incident is now the subject of the inquiry chaired by Lord Cullen.

At the 49th day of the hearing, held at Westminster City Hall, Robert Owen QC told the inquiry that Thames train driver Michael Hodder's training 'was acknowledged to have been deficient in a number of critical respects'.

'Both the inadequacies of his training, in particular with regard to route-learning and his very limited experience, are likely to have contributed to the errors made by him,' he said. Mr Hodder passed a red signal after leaving Paddington station on October 5 last year.

His train collided with a Great Western service. The drivers of both trains were killed.

The inquiry has now adjourned until September 13.
