Further to recent articles about the proposed housing development on the site of the 1st Elstree and Borehamwood Scout Group at Arundel Drive, I would like to make clear the position of the group. We would welcome the opportunity to move to the proposed new site as we feel it would be in the best long-term interest of the group, its existing and future members.

We are still hopeful that funding may become available to allow the project to go ahead.

Our group has been providing scouting in Elstree and Borehamwood for 92 years, and is due to celebrate its centenary in 2008.

It would be nice to be able to do so in a new headquarters, and be in a position to do so for many years to come.

In addition to our Beaver Colony, Cub Scout Pack and Scout Troop, we are also host to three other community activities.

These are the 8th Borehamwood Brownie Pack, the Adult Aikido Club and the Everett Judo Club, for young people between seven and 16 years of age, which is now in its 33rd year.

Some of the other useful activities undertaken recently by the group include the construction of a permanent orienteering course at Aldenham Country Park for the use of the general public, surveying the rural footpaths for the county council and supplying pet food and blankets to the RSPCA centre at South Mimms.

We are also undertaking a sponsored walk in aid of the World Wide Wildlife Fund.

To put everyone's mind at rest, we have been assured by the local authorities that we shall not be asked to vacate our present accommodation until such time as a suitable premises, on an alternative site, is ready for us to move into.
