For those lazy summer Sunday mornings, what could be finer than a relaxing spot of fishing on Hampstead Heath?

Every Sunday morning from August 6 until September 3, the Corporation of London is offering free angling courses to everyone from young novices on their summer holidays to experienced anglers.

Fishing expert Chris Vaughan will be on hand to conduct the teach-ins, which offer instructions from setting up and using fishing tackle to tidying up afterwards. Special emphasis will be placed on the requirement that all fish must be returned to the water alive.

Equipment will also be loaned for free, enabling the beginner to fish for the very first time.

Since 1993, the Corporation has ensured that the Heath's ponds have a diverse and healthy fish population, which include carp, rudd, bream, tench and roach.

People interested in becoming responsible fishermen should go along to the number three pond near Millfield Lane on the Highgate side of the Heath at 10am on a Sunday morning where they will be assigned a tutor.
