A small corner of Radlett is set to become German territory as part of a scheme to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the village's twinning with Lautertal.
Ten years ago the German town named one of its squares Radlett Platz as a gesture of good will to mark a decade of successful relations between the twin towns.
Lautertal has now approached Aldenham Parish Council to request whether a piece of land could be dedicated in its name, on which a plaque could be erected.
Although Radlett does not have a square which could be named after the German town, parish councillors are looking into the idea of designating a green.
Parish clerk Philip Truppin said: 'The members have come up with the idea of having a green area within the parish which could be called Lautertal Green.'
The parish council is hoping it has a suitable piece of unused land, which could be dedicated during the anniversary celebrations in June next year.
Radlett and Aldenham International Friendship Association, which co-ordinates twinning activities, regularly organises trips to Lautertal and the French twin town, Louvieciennes.
