HERTFORDSHIRE Police are stepping up their campaign to reduce the number of accidents on the county's roads now that school holiday season has started.
In a bid to keep children safe on the streets, the force is to link with the Government's 'Think' campaign.
The scheme encourages drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to think about road safety.
Throughout the holiday period officers will be targeting young cyclists with respect to safety as well as cracking down on non-seatbelt use. Children out playing in the streets will also be spoken to.
Meanwhile, East Herts residents living in areas considered for new 30mph speed limits will soon get a chance to have a say on the proposed change.
The council's road safety unit will soon consult with residents over the new speed limits.
In 1999 there were 678 accidents involving children aged up to 15 in Hertfordshire.
