THE station commander at Watford Fire Station has hit out at arsonist attacks which endanger lives and waste fire service resources.

Station Officer Roger Parker was prompted to speak on the issue after crews were called out to the same site in Cardiff Road, Watford, twice in three days.

The first fire was on Thursday in a derelict building in an industrial yard at the end of Cardiff Road.

On Sunday, officers went back to the same site to put out another fire which took an hour to extinguish.

Officer Parker said: 'We have been called out to this site several times in the last few months.

'The building has been on fire so many times it has become more and more unsafe and could collapse.

'People that get into the yard and start the fires are endangering themselves, the lives of firefighters and the lives of other people who might need the fire service at the same time when we are occupied with these fires.

'The people that set fire to the site are risking their own lives and at the same endangering the lives of other people.'
