COMMUTERS travelling from St Albans Abbey to Watford Junction in early morning rush hour found themselves stuck in long delays and were forced to take buses - after vandals threw a cable over a rail bridge.
The hanging cable was noticed by a train driver at 7.05am on Wednesday, October 10. He reported an unknown object was hanging off the St Albans Abbey rail bridge. The object was later confirmed to be a cable which had been dumped by vandals.
A spokesman for Railtrack said: "We apologise for any train delays but the object which was unknown at the time had affected the overhead lines. We sent a team to investigate the matter and the rail line was restored to normal at 8.30am. Nobody was injured.
