PROPOSED new regulations put forward by Welwyn Hatfield MP and Consumer and Competition Minister Ms Melanie Johnson will allow company directors at risk of violence to remove their address from the public list at Companies House.
Current regulations state that directors must file details of home addresses but at-risk directors may now be allowed to use a service address instead of a private one.
Ms Johnson said the new regulations would help prevent the sort of abuse and threats made against the directors of Huntingdon Life Sciences earlier this year.
"We must stress that only directors who are at genuine risk will be able to benefit from this provision," said Ms Johnson. "We will not grant confidentiality orders in other circumstances."
Public consultation on the proposals is currently being sought and a full copy of the document is available from the Department of Trade and Industry website at www.dti.gov.uk/cld/current.htm.
