A GIANT marrow is helping to raise funds for a childrens' party this Christmas.
The vegetable was grown by a customer of the Breakspear Arms in School Mead and the pub is having a guess the weight of the marrow competition.
The weighing of the marrow took place on Wednesday evening. By Monday morning, there had already been 60 guesses, each paying £1 each.
The guesses so far have ranged from 18 pounds to 109 pounds, but most guesses have been in the region of 40 or 50 pounds.
Mr Tony Courteney, the owner of the pub, said: "It is a bit of fun, with all the doom and gloom going on in the world at the moment.
"Everyone seems to be an expert and it is a good way to raise some money for charity."
