CHESS VALLEY LADIES faltered badly in their third league game since being promoted to the Printwize East League Division Two South as they suffered a 9-1 defeat at the hands of Ipswich.
A depleted Chess side, containing only four first-team regulars, were given a harsh lesson by a strong Ipswich side who played some excellent hockey, leaving the visitors bemused and rarely able to move the ball out of their defensive half of the pitch.
Ipswich scored within the first couple minutes which led to a landslide defeat.
Chess Valley's consolation goal came through Anne Hitchcock making sure that Clare Beesley's strike went on target.
There were good performances from Annie Barrett and Caroline Elmer in defence.
Rookie Rhiannon Davies made some fine moves on the right wing and held her own against strong opposition.
