I was disappointed to read Matthew Offord's letter concerning the Liberal Democrats' conference for two reasons ('Pressing issues', October 4).
Firstly, the whole point about intervening in Afghanistan is to preserve our democracy. Cancelling the conference or restricting party conferences to a single debate would have been giving in to the terrorists.
Secondly, judging by the strength of support that Liberal Democrats have received in the area, people clearly very much care about the fate of the Golders Green Ionic and ensuring diversity in our cinemas.
If Mr Offord had read the motion and listened to the debate he would probably have agreed with us, but it's always easy to make a cheap but meaningless political point, isn't it?
