DRIVERS are not using much road sense when it comes to leaving lap-top computers and mobile phones in their cars, despite police warnings.
Officers across West Watford, Three Rivers and Dacorum districts have been advising on security in theft hot-spot areas, sending out letters to vehicles with valuables in public view.
Pub car parks and beauty spots are favoured locations for thieves. Each day, at least five thefts from vehicles are reported to police.
Mike Powell, a western area crime prevention officer, said: "The best thing to do is put valuable items in the boot of your car at the start of your journey if you intend leaving them there for any length of time.
"It is incredible the number of people who still leave mobile phones on display, and even handbags and briefcases on seats."
