Barnet 2 Bournemouth 1
Barnet win on golden goal rule
LDV Vans Trophy first round
Roy Essandoh is making a habit of popping up with goals that cause cup upsets. Last season he scored the injury-time winner for Wycombe Wanderers against Leicester that took them through to an FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool.
On Tuesday, Essandoh was Barnet's golden boy with a magnificent strike that clinched a fine victory over Second Division Bournemouth at Underhill.
With the score 1-1 after 90 minutes, the first goal in golden goal extra time would decide the tie. Eight minutes in Leon Bell delivered a superb through ball to Wayne Purser, who laid it off for Essandoh to power a 30-yard shot into the corner of the net.
Bournemouth had gone ahead after 33 minutes when Brian Stock sent over a cross from the left and Tresor Kamdol punished poor marking, heading home at the far post.
Strong presssure by Barnet at the start of the second half was rewarded in the 55th minute when Sawyers scored a brilliant equaliser from 35 yards.
Purser was twice denied by tremendous saves from Menetrier, before Essandoh struck with the winner.
BARNET: Harrison, Gledhill, Heald, Arber, Flynn, Gower, Bell, Sawyers, Brown (Wiper 93), Purser, Essandoh. Subs not used: Midgley, Naisbitt, Pluck, Taylor. Man of the match: Sawyers. Attendance: 789.
Barnet face a tough test in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round with a visit to Havant and Waterlooville on Saturday, October 27. The Hants side are top of the Dr Martens League Premier Division unbeaten with eight wins and five draws from 13 matches.
