Hertsmere U17s had to battle hard for three points against a very physical Evergreen side in this West Herts Division One game.
Justice was finally done when the referee awarded Hertsmere a penalty in the 37th minute, which was slotted home by Sam McDonagh to give Hertsmere a 1-0 interval lead.
Five minutes into the second half, Sam McDonagh limped off following a reckless challenge, which resulted in an Evergreen player being booked.
With no subs available due to injuries and work commitments, Hertsmere had to play the rest of the game with only ten men.
Evergreen were then awarded a penalty, which keeper Roshan Senanayake saved, and he then went on to make another magnificent save by palming a shot around the post, when it had been destined for the top corner.
This seemed to inspire the ten men of Hertsmere, and their grit and determination was rewarded when Ross Marle grabbed a goal two minutes from time, to make the game safe.
