The European classical ballet Coppelia will be performed at The Radlett Centre, 1 Aldenham Avenue, Radlett, from tonight, Thursday, October 18, to Saturday, October 20. The ballet, directed by The Bolshoi Ballet's Stanislav Tchassov, mixes a love story with the story of a doll-maker who wants to make a doll with a soul. Guide dogs will benefit from a musical entertainment evening at Borehamwood's Hawksmoor Centre on Saturday, October 20. Hertsmere Acoustic Music is hosting That Doggone Music at the centre, in Potters Lane, with proceeds going towards the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. The event starts at 8pm in Beaumont's Bar, and musicians and singers are welcome to take part. Entry is free, but there will be a collection and raffle. Children accompanied by adults are welcome. The Luton Gospel Male Voice Choir will be conducting an Evening Service, at Borehamwood Baptist Church, Furzehill Road, at 6.30pm on Sunday October 21. All welcome.

The Elstree and Borehamwood Light Operatic Society will perform Oliver, Lionel Bart's most successful musical written around Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, from Tuesday to Saturday, October 23 to 27, at The Radlett Centre. John Osborne's Look Back in Anger will be performed, by the London Classic Theatre Company, at The Radlett Centre, on Wednesday October 31, at 8pm. The Radlett Players will perform their autumn production Don't Dress for Dinner, at The Radlett Centre, from Wednesday November 7 to Saturday November 10. Susan McCann, one of the biggest names in Country and Western music, will headline a Rotary Club variety show in Elstree at 7pm on Thursday, November 29. The Gala Variety Show, at the Allum Lane Community Centre, will feature music, comedy and drama, and funds raised will support the Rotary Club's projects in Borehamwood and Elstree. Art

The Radlett Centre is holding an exhibition of paintings by the artist Jenny Reynish during October. The paintings are inspired by Indian and Persian carpets, ethnic folk art and decorative textiles. Open daily from 10am until 4pm, except Sundays, until October 27. Admission free.

Radlett Art Society presents a lecture Interpreting Picasso, by Colin Bailey, on Tuesday, November 13, at 1pm, at The Radlett Centre. Light refreshments are available from midday.

Children & teenagers

Hertsmere Borough Council's art fun days will be held during the October half-term, including drama, dance, games and art. The fun days run from 10am until 3pm, at Borehamwood's Parkside School on October 22, Radlett's Fairfield School on October 24 and Shenley's JMI School on October 26. An attic sale is being held at Shenley Village Hall, on Sunday October 21, from 1pm to 5pm. Entrance is 50p for adults and free for children. Anyone who wants to hold a stall is asked to call 020 8953 9594.

The Rotary Club of Radlett is holding an information evening next Thursday, October 25, for people to find out more about its work. Those interested in joining the world-wide, service-based Rotary organisation, are also visited to attend the evening, at The Radlett Centre, from 5pm to 7pm. Members of Radlett's Rotary Club will welcome residents, from the Radlett area, Shenley, Aldenham and Park Street, with glasses of wine.

The Shenley Cricket Centre is holding a Curry Night on Friday October 26, from 7pm to midnight, with the bar open. Tickets are £8 for members, £9 non-members, and include food. For information call 01923 859022.

Embroiderers will gather at Borehamwood Village Hall, in Shenley Road, for the 11th annual Patchwork and Embroidery Exhibition on Saturday, November 3. The event, in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Relief Fund, is organised by the Elswood Embroiders, Studio Quilters and Tykeswater Quilters. Doors open from 10.30am to 4pm. Admission £1.

A laser and fireworks display, to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night, will be held in Borehamwood's Meadow Park, on Monday November 5. The annual event, organised by Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council, is free, and will start promptly at 7.30pm in the Brook Road park. People are urged to walk because car parking will be limited.

A Christmas Charity Fair will be held at Borehamwood Village Hall on Saturday November 10, organised by Hertsmere Community Voluntary Support. The fair, with cakes, gifts, bric-a-brac and other items for sale, will take place from 9.30am to 1pm, at the Shenley Road hall. For details call 020 8207 4504.

There will be a bazaar, at Borehamwood's Maydwell Lodge, on Saturday, November 10, at 2pm. Entry is 20p, and event includes a raffle, tombola, good-as-new stall and home-made cakes.

The Rotary Club of Radlett is holding a traditional Village Community Carol Concert, at The Radlett Centre, on Monday, December 10, at 8pm. The free concert will feature the St Albans City Band, Choir of St John the Baptist Aldenham and Choir of Newberries School, and refreshments are available throughout. There will also be a raffle.c
