A youth club which held its meetings at Shenley Village Hall has closed because of vandalism and the disruptive behaviour of some of its members.

Shenley Youth Club, which was run by Hertfordshire County Council youth workers, used to meet on Monday evenings at the hall, in London Road.

But the council this week said it closed the club because of bad behaviour and the fact that the number of members had been falling steadily.

Damage had been caused to hall, during club meetings, and parish councillors were concerned that the hall was becoming a target for vandals.

A county council spokesperson said: "A few of the people at the club were causing noise and disturbing local residents.

"Youth workers tried to enlist the support of the parents of these people in stopping this kind of disruptive behaviour, but that was not forthcoming."

The council now intends to send its youth service vehicle to Shenley, to ask young people what kind of facilities they would like in the village.

A new homework club has been launched at Borehamwood Library, in Elstree Way, which will meet on Mondays, Tuesday and Wednesdays, during term time, from 3.30pm to 6.30pm.

The Lair Youth Centre, in Gateshead Road, Borehamwood, is currently open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, between 7pm and 10pm.

Radlett Youth Club meets at its centre, on the junction of Watling Street and Loom Lane, on Thursdays, from 7pm until 10pm.
