An environmental project to clear out a pond in Shenley which is believed to date back to medieval times is expected to start early next week.
The Countryside Management Service (CMS) this week said it hoped contractors would begin draining the Cage Pond, in London Road, on Monday.
The scheme involves removing silt from the pond and remoulding its banks, to make it more attractive and turn it into better wildlife habitat.
It is being carried out at the request of the Shenley Parish Advisory Committee (Environment), which was set up to look at local environmental issues.
Both groups are searching for a renderer or plasterer willing to volunteer to repair a wall next to the pond. Anyone who can help is asked to phone the CMS on 020 8447 5466.
