Borehamwood Women's Institute celebrated its 78th birthday last Thursday, with a talk entitled Laughter is the Best Medicine.
As well as the talk, which was given by Anne Hunt, the WI continued the theme of laughter in a funniest joke competition, won by Anne Bence. Doreen Burr came second, and Joan Bray third.
At a previous meeting, on September 27, members heard a speech about work on the Enigma machine, at Bletchley Park during the Second World War. There were also refreshments, quiz games and a raffle.
A WI spokesperson added: "An entertaining evening was rounded off with much hilarity, as several stalwart members pushed the speaker's car down Shenley Road, in an effort to get it started."
The WI meets next for its Annual Meeting, at 7.30pm on Thursday November 8, at Borehamwood Village Hall, in Shenley Road. Visitors are welcome.
