SIMON MARTIN'S second brace of goals in a week helped carry St Albans City to their second Capital League victory of the season at a damp Clarence Park on Monday evening (October 15).
Saints again fielded their first team to fulfil a Reserve team fixture, this time to gain a 4-0 victory over Yeading.
The home side were quickly onto the offensive and the handful of spectators attending the game only had to wait until the 14th minute for the opening goal when Martin finished off a spell of scrappy play with a well placed shot from 12 yards wide of Yeading keeper Kieran Jimmy.
Martin celebrated his second five minutes later when a low Gary Wraight cross from the City right was not properly cut out by John Murphy, who allowed Martin to quickly nip in and hammer the ball into the roof of the net.
Saints' third and fourth goals owed much to the accuracy of Smith's crossing ability, indeed the former Baldock player put a series of good crosses into the Yeading penalty area throughout the evening.
On 34 minutes it was from a Smith free kick that Corey Campbell missed out on a clear scoring chance with a poor header but before the Ding could clear their lines Lee Burns lashed the ball high into the back of the net for the third City goal.
Smith was again the provider in the 55th minute when his free kick towards the back post was inadvertently turned into his own net by Ding defender Craig Vargas, despite Ryan Moran's best efforts to claim the goal.
*There are a few spaces left on the supporters' coach for St Albans City's first team Ryman Premier encounter with Heybridge Swifts at Scraley Road on Saturday, October 18.
Bookings are being taken by Ian Rogers on 07714 145862, with the coach leaving Clarence Road at 12.45pm.
On Saturday November 3, Saints are away to Wisbech Town in the FA Trophy competition, Ian Rogers is also taking bookings for that game with the coach leaving St Albans at 11.45am.
