CHESS VALLEY ladies returned to winning ways with a 5-2 victory over old aversaries Hertford in the East League Printwize fixture on Saturday, October 13.

On a glorious day, a full strength Chess took control early on with Laura Silverdale converting a well-executed set piece from a corner.

Annie Barrett added to her goal tally by skillfully adding a touch to another corner strike that left the Herts keeper with no chance of making the save.

Chess added a third before the break, but allowed Hertford to pull one back just before the whistle.

In the second half, Hertford used their rolling substitutions skillfully, leaving Chess looking decidedly uncomfortable in defence at times.

Hertford scored again to reduce the deficit to just one and put them back in contention, but Chess regrouped to stamp their authority on the game, scoring through a copybook counter attack, with Sue Cemlyn-Jones deservedly beating the keeper and finding the back of the net.

As the home side reimposed their superiority on the match, Annie Barrett made sure of a Chess victory with a wicked darting run to add the deftest of contacts to slide the ball past the Hertford goalkeeper.
