FEMALE pupils are being targeted by the Government to try and encourage more women to pursue careers in IT.
Currently, only one in five people in the UK IT workforce is female, meaning Britain lags behind other developed countries such as America, Canada and Ireland.
Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt said next year the Government will launch an initiative which will include getting more schoolgirls using IT in schools.
