HEAVY rain on Saturday and Sunday led to renewed fears of flooding this week across St Albans and surrounding villages.
As half of the estimated rainfall for October fell in just 24 hours over the weekend and with more rain forecast, residents remain on their guard with sandbags at the ready.
On Sunday the Environment Agency issued a flood watch for the River Colne and its tributaries affecting people living close to the river in Colney Heath and St Albans.
Meanwhile a flood watch was also given for the River Ver, which could affect residents in Flamstead, St Albans and Bricket Wood.
A flood watch is issued when there is no imminent threat of a river flooding, but suggests residents be alert to rising river levels and the possible need to secure their homes from flood water.
To find up-to-date reports on flooding in the St Albans area call the Flood Line on 0845 9881188, the quick dial number for the St Albans area is 0112212 and should be dialled when prompted by the flood line recorded message.
