A campaign for subtitles to be increased on television, is being supported by Hertsmere MP James Clappison.
The Conservative MP was asked to join the campaign, to increase subtitles on cable and satellite television, by the Royal National Institute for Deaf People, which had a stand at the recent Conservative Party Conference.
The charity is urging the Government to apply subtitling standards to cable and satellite television channels, which are not required under current legislation to provide subtitled programmes.
Mr Clappison said: "There are five million people in the United Kingdom who use subtitles and, with an aging population, there is a growing number of people who could benefit from them."
