Borehamwood firefighters have collected £2,981 to donate to the families of the New York firefighters who lost their lives during last month's World Trade Centre attack.
They raised the money from two separate collections last month.
A total of £1,208 was collected in two hours, during a tour of 11 pubs in Borehamwood and Radlett.
A further £1,773 was collected, in four hours, from customers at Tesco, in Shenley Road.
At the Tesco collection, an American firefighter's helmet was displayed, and the store donated a paddling pool for customers to throw their money into.
Sub Officer Bob Williams said: "£2,981.50 is no mean feat for a relatively small, but extremely generous, town."
Station Commander Danny Rickett is sending thank you certificates to all the premises which welcomed the fundraising fire crew.
