A PIECE of wood was used to attak a man who was pinned to the ground and robbed by three muggers in College Lane, Hatfield last week.
The 19-year-old was walking from Cavendish Way at 6.45pm on Wednesday, October 17, when he was grabbed from behind in a bear-hug, pushed towards trees at the side of the pavement and told to hit the deck.
A black man of about 17 with a medium build, threatened him with the foot-long weapon and hit him on the back of the head.
The other two men, both white and of similar age and build, one wearing bright clothing and a cream-coloured padded jacket, pinned him to the ground and went through his pockets.
The robbers, one addressed as Richard by his accomplices, took a mobile phone, a wallet with cash and a silver carrier bag containing magazines.
The victim chased his attackers back towards The Galleria Shopping Centre and last saw them disappearing into bushes near Cavendish Way.
Detective Constable Rachel Lindsay said: "This was a very frightening ordeal for the victim.
"It is vital that anyone who saw what happened or has any information contacts us on 01707 638102."
Police are particularly keen to speak to three women and two men who spoke to the victim after the attack.
