A Potters Bar author is donning running shoes to take part in an emotional New York marathon to raise money for charity.

Novelist Steve Emecz, 30, of Clive Close, hopes to raise £2,000 for Leonard Cheshire, a national charity which provides disabled people in the UK with services including day care, skills training and residential care.

Steve is the author of Cut to the Chase, a thriller about an innocent man framed for the murder of a high profile member of the IRA and his chase across two continents to prove his innocence. He sold more than 8,000 copies and has just completed a sequel, Cuban Cut.

However, Steve says writing will be far from his mind as he runs on Sunday: "Originally it was a lottery as to whether it would go ahead as the road you run down is next to the Twin Towers. So it's going to be a very emotional race for the 50,000 people who are expected to run."
