Star 2 Wormley 1
Herts Premier LeagueStar got off to a great start in their home game against Wormley when they were gifted an own goal from a corner.
This galvanised Wormley into a frenzy of attacks and Star were put under the cosh.
But Star hit back when Tommy Flahive took a great pass from Wicks and he found Bell whose shot was well saved by the Wormley keeper.
Buss then went on a breakaway run from deep in the Star half and his pass found Bell in a forward position, but his shot from 20 yards was palmed out by the Wormley keeper.
Star then scored a goal out of the blue when Jones cut in towards the Wormley goal and let fly. The ball cannoned into the top corner net from 20 yards leaving the Wormley keeper nonplussed.
Jones nearly got on the scoresheet again a few minutes later, when a great pass from Love reached him 20 yards out, and his shot soared over the Wormley bar.
The second half turned into a cup tie, when Wormley, who had been given a fearful dressing down by their manager during the break, came back onto the field with two substitutes up front.
Wormley then subjected Star to a second half pounding, it was the Alamo, and Luke Reed and Tommy Armitt came on for Paul Cooper and Danny Wicks. Ben Taylor and Stevie Buss were running themselves ragged in midfield, plugging gaps and returning balls up to the attack, and Star keeper Mason brought off two saves that were right out the top draw.
Wormley got a goal with eight minutes to go, to reduce the arrears, and the game got even more fraught for Star as Wormley pushed on.
A ding dong encounter and a great win for Star, and hopefully a start in the climb out of the relegation zone.
